Heathrow Airport needs new runways
The coalition government has cancelled the plans for the third runway at the London Heathrow airport in a view that it would block the Stansted and Gatwick airport runways.
In response the airport’s lobby group has suggested that the decision to call off the plans for building runways at the Heathrow airport will affect the capability of UK to compete with other aerospace industries.
The Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE), whose members design and construct bridges, roads, railways and large buildings, has claimed that there is need to address the impact of environment of the unrestrained growth in the demand for air travel but the government has to look in to the long term airport infrastructure needs.
An ICE aviation expert Simon Godfrey-Arnold stated “Air transport and Air infrastructure are vital for the UK’s international connectivity and prosperity. As a trading island nation and popular tourist destination we depend on our ability to connect with the rest of the world.”
He added that the airport infrastructure with world class amenities helps in attracting the inward investment, and enables access to international labor force by providing direct business and leisure links to growing economies around the world like China, India and Brazil.
“The aircraft innovation must be accelerated for the contributions of the long term industry to reduce emissions and the government should initially look to make emission cuts elsewhere,” he said.
Avis, Alamo, Budget, Europcar and Hertz are the car hire agencies at the Heathrow airport.
